Named after the dog, Lucy, available for adoption through the Minnesota Animal Humane Society, these high-waisted shorts have an angled cut and raw hem that has been sewn down to prevent ripping or fraying. They have three large star quilt blocks (two on the front and one on the back pocket).
Each quilt block is machine-sewn on before being hand appliquéd with embroidery thread to make them durable and built to last. Due to the antique nature of the quilt blocks, some staining, discoloring, or holes are present and expected. Examples of these are documented in the photos for reference.
Each hand-embroidered piece takes anywhere from 10-20 hours to create and is a slow, but rewarding process with sustainability, durability, and self expression in mind. They are a true labor of love and I am so excited to share each one with you.
All Measurements Taken While Laying Flat:
Waist: 14.5" | Length: 11.5" (due to hem being cut at angle) | Inseam: 2" (Cut at an angle) | Rise: 12" | Thigh: 10" | Leg Opening: 12" | Hips: 18.5"
Garment Materials: 100% Cotton
Sustainability Statement
Each piece is made as sustainably as possible with the intention to not add more fabric to the landfill and an attempt to be as close to zero-waste as possible. I source all of the clothing from thrift stores and all of the quilted pieces, quilts, and remnants are second-hand. I also try to source as much of my sewing thread and embroidery thread second-hand as much as possible, while reusing packaging materials as well.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Due to the vintage and delicate nature of the upcycled materials and quilt patches, these pieces are hand-wash and line or rack dry only. I also recommend spot cleaning when possible to extend the life of your garment or accessory
TWO HOWLING LABS GUARANTEE:
If the embroidery thread* comes undone, each piece comes with a lifetime guarantee and I will repair the stitching free of cost. For handmade items, I will repair any rips or tears that occur due to improper stitching or manufacturing.
*Please note: the guarantee only applies to the added work on the garment, not the thrifted item itself. I also cannot repair items that haven't been up-kept with the above care instructions. If you have a larger repair (ie: a hole develops somewhere on the thrifted clothing item), I can repair these for a small fee and the cost of shipping.
