Julia

Julia is the owner/jefa behind Pa'lante Offbeat and Palante Para. They have been embroidering apparel for the last four years while working in student affairs and marketing and communications.

Julia is a huge fan of incorporating equity and justice practices into the workplace, empowering young people of color, advocating for co-ownership practices in housing, and macaroni and cheese.

When she’s not pursuing her dreams, she can be found lounging with her partner, trying new restaurants in Portland, playing video games and board games, or snoozing.

Why the Charmed Crow Collective?

“Running a business is traditionally a very lonely pursuit. I have always been interested in doing things differently, though. After a huge career shift and buying a home with my partner and best friends, I realized that co-ownership can be successfully applied to business, too. Shaking up the traditional business owner/vendor dynamic to create a more equitable retail space has been becoming an exciting reality with this truly amazing group.” 🐦⬛

Why the Charmed Crow Collective?

“Being part of this collective is an opportunity to be immersed in all the things that I’ve wanted to move closer to; building community with like minded queer people, contributing to the future I want to see for workers, and owning a brick and mortar business aligned with my values. The future is worker owned and I am so excited to be a part of it alongside such wonderful people.”

Joselin

Joselin is the owner and designer of Trashmere. She is a chainmaille artist and graphic designer who loves print media and specializes in block printed and screen printed garments. Her designs focus on anti-capitalism and anti-colonial themes and take inspiration from radical art, Art Nouveau, and 80s music.

You can find Joselin roller skating, smoking a joint, listening to Depeche Mode, collecting cool vintage stuff, and pickin’ berries.

Why the Charmed Crow Collective?

“I’ve wanted to have my own little vintage, maker sort of shop thing since I started collecting and selling vintage years ago. It has always seemed like a dream out of reach for just myself. I’ve had the idea of a collectively owned shop and maker-space for a while now and I feel so fortunate to have met a group of such like minded folks. There’s no way I would have been able to make this happen alone and I’m so glad we took the leap to do something unconventional. I’m excited to see each other thrive on our own terms and to create a space for other artists and community to thrive as well!”

What’s something you’re reading or watching right now?

“Watching TrueBlood for the first time and always rewatching King of the Hill (waiting for the new season!)”

Thank you Joselin for designing our very cool logo!

She has been upcycling clothes since 2015 and running THL for over 2 years.

Sofi is most passionate about the intersection of community care, sustainability, equity and justice, and slow fashion within her own life and her business.

Why the Charmed Crow Collective?

“For eight years, I’ve dreamed of being part of the creation of a collective third space where people could support artists, creatives and small businesses, attend classes & workshops, and focus on community building. Until meeting the other owners of the Charmed Crow Collective, I wasn’t sure how to make this dream a reality. Now this dream is coming true and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of such a wonderful collective of like-minded artists forging a fresh, collaborative take on retail in Portland.”
